Arbitration Award: Johansson gets $3.75 Million for One Year

Well, everyone kind of saw this coming.

The NHL arbitrator for Marcus Johansson awarded him a $3.75 Million one-year deal with the Washington Capitals. The deal will return him to restricted free agency again next season, setting up another contract battle next July. Johansson scored 47 points (20 G, 27 A), a career high, last year splitting time between the second and first line on both wings and occasionally at center.

In the weeks leading up to arbitration, little dialogue was exchanged between the two sides. General Manager Brain MacLellan said evrything was “status quo” during the conference call after the Braden Holtby signing. No further talks were made and both sides settled their differences in the arbitration room.

With this signing, it appears the Caps offseason is over.
