Today the Capitals announced that they resigned Chorney for the next 2 years. Chorney has played in a career high 45 games this season, his first as a full time NHL player. Chorney has been amazing while filling in for the Caps when injuries to Orpik and Carlson occurred. With both of them now healthy, Chorney is the odd man out and his a healthy scratch, although regarded by Trotz as a “hard decision”. I personally do not like this move.
Unless the Caps believe they either won`t resign Orlov, a restricted free agent, or think Orpik is too old and injured for them, they are keeping good players in Hershey. As seen in very limited time this year because of waivers, Connor Carrick has preformed quite well. In Hershey, Carrick was selected to the All Star Game and has 23 points (10 Goals, 13 Assists) and is a +19 in 42 games played. he is 7th on the Bears in points scored.
I personally do not believe Carrick needs another year in the AHL, and that is why I do not like the move. Otherwise, Chorney has been an outstanding depth defender. Either way, congratulations Taylor on your new deal.
