Capitals fans, get out your red pens and circle those calendars, because the first two games if the 2016-17 season have been announced. Washington will open the season on the road before coming home to Verizon Center to face the New York Islanders on Saturday, October 15.

The aforementioned road opener will be October 13 at Consol Energy Center where the Pittsburgh Penguins will host their Stanley Cup banner raising ceremony. Conspiracy theorists can do what they please with that information.

Washington is 13-2-1-1 (W-L-T-OT/SOL) in home openers at Verizon Center and 2-0-1 against the Islanders. Last season, Alex Ovechkin (6 goals) and T.J Oshie (2 goals, 4 assists) led the team with six points over four games against Brooklyn’s new team, going 3-0-1.

The full NHL schedule will be released tomorrow.
