After the announcement of the 1st overall pick at the NHL draft, it was announced that the Caps acquired Lars Eller from Montreal for two second round picks. The picks are in 2017 and 2018.
With this trade, the Caps are in full “win now” mode as they no longer have a second round pick in the next three years after they traded their 2016 pick in the Daniel WInnik trade.
Eller had 26 points last year and has had at least 25 in the four previous years. Eller will most likely be the Caps 3rd line center for the upcoming year.
Eller has a salary cap hit of $3.5 million for the next two years.
